At the invitation of His Majesty’s Ambassador, Matthew Lodge, from the British Embassy in Greece, ESA founder, Sharon Jackson, had the honour and privilege to meet Her Royal Highness Princess Anne at a reception held at the historic Grand Arsenal in Chania harbour. The reception was part of the 85th Battle of Crete commemorations, organised in collaboration between, the British Embassy and the Municipality of Chania. The ‘Μάχη της Κρήτης’ was fought, during WW2 from the morning of 20 May 1941. Despite allied troops and island inhabitants uniting in valiant and heroic efforts, Crete fell to the Nazis on the 11th day.
Her Royal Highness showed a genuine interest in ESA and our work to educate managers in businesses with sustainability leadership skills. She spoke with Sharon for several minutes about her experiences of natural materials buildings around the world and her views on traditional windmills, of which there are still many in the Lasithi region of Crete.
Meeting The Princess Royal was a highlight, as was the magnificent display by the RAF Red Arrows over the historic Chania harbour the following day. The 2 days were flawlessly organised and a deeply respectful and thought provoking multicultural event.
